CHAPTER 8 – NOT IN THE WORLD

I don’t function at all in the world anymore. There is no one I have to call in sick to if I come down with the flu. I haven’t had the flu for ages, perhaps because I’m not out where the germs are.

When I worked in the world, I worked only halftime. By my own choice. I wanted to function at halftime even then. I wanted the rest of my time to slow down in, to think and be.

“The unexamined life is not worth living.” Did the person who said that mean the same thing I do?
